The 100 block of Jacksonia Street in the Central Northside will see six new townhouses with the help of the Central Northside Neighborhood Council and the Urban Redevelopment Authority.

The Jacksonia townhouses will be the first phase of a series of the revitalization or constructions of 50 homes in the Central Northside on Jacksonia, Alpine, Carrington, Arch and Sampsonia streets.

The CNNC expects construction to begin in the spring, and estimate the project will cost $1.8 million dollars, and the two and three-bedroom houses will sell for around $200,000 each.

The URA contributed $75,000 to acquire the properties that had been vacant lots for many years, and the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County awarded the CNNC an additional $200,000 grant.

The announcement came just weeks after the CNNC announced that the Federal Street townhouses, a project they began in 2006, had all been filled.

The CNNC and URA hope to repeat their success on Jacksonia Street.

Central Northside Neighborhood Council President Chris D’Addario noted that the council was encouraged not only by the sale of the Federal Street townhouses, but by Central Northside real estate sales in general.

“In the Central Northside we’ve seen a solid housing market, and it’s encouraging,” said D’Addario.
