This Weekend on the Northside: June 23 to 26

Saturday, June 25
What: Volunteer planting
Where: Corner of Eloise and Arch streets, Central Northside
When: noon
A group of residents are going to be meeting at the garden on Eloise at Arch Street to plant annuals and perennials at noon this Saturday, June 25. Bring your garden trowels. The WPA Conservancy had extra annuals and donated them to the cause. If you have any hostas or daylilies or other shade tolerant perennials you would like to donate that would be great. What: Smiley’s 25th Birthday Party
Where: Carnegie Science Center, North Shore
When: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (cake served at 1 p.m.)
Carnegie Science Center and Eat’n Park present a birthday bash, “Smiley’s Birthday Mascot Mania,” to celebrate Smiley’s 25th birthday. On June 25, visitors will be able to meet and greet some of their favorite local mascots, including Smiley and others including: the Pirate Parrot, the Penn State Nittany Lion, Kenny the Kennywood Kangaroo, and many more. Party-goers can delight in the Science Center’s interactive exhibits and live demonstration theaters, and decorate their own Smiley Cookie at Eat’n Park’s hands-on cookie decorating table. Country singer Sarah Marince, the voice behind Eat’n Park’s “Place for Smiles” jingle, will also be attending the celebration to join in singing “Happy Birthday” at 1 p.m. All activities are free with general admission to the Science Center. Coupons for half price child general admission tickets are available at all Eat’n Park locations, while supplies last. Discount is valid with the purchase of one full-priced adult general admission ticket and good only for June 25, 2011.

What: Rock Nouveau concert
Where: Bistro to Go
When: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Bistro’s own Rocco Nouveau will perform songs from the great songwriters during Sunday brunch.
