This weekend on the Northside

Friday, May 6
What: Outdoor rally for Providence Connections
When: 3:30 p.m.
Where: Providence Family Connections, 3113 Brighton Road
The rally is part of a statewide rally with other Family Centers, Family Support Centers and Family Care Connections, who are asking that the Community Based Family Center line item be restored to the state budget and that federal funds previously directed to Centers continue to be used for that purpose.

On May 6, Centers across the state will be holding rallies in front of their properties to peacefully request that Governor Tom Corbett continue state and federal funds to support Family Support Centers.

What: Dixie Doc’s Dixieland
When: 8 to 11 p.m.
Where: Allegheny Elks, 400 Cedar Ave.
Dixie Doc’s Dixieland at the Elks returns. Tickets available at the door or in advance at $5. For tickets or information please contact Dixie Doc aka Dr. Richard Paul at 412-508-8951 or Linda Nehrer at 412-364-2221.

Saturday, May 7
What: 4th Annual Gardening Day at Reformed Presbyterian Home
When: 9 a.m. to noon
Where: RPH, Perrysville Avenue
Help us to beautify our grounds and visit with a senior resident as well. Breakfast and lunch snacks provided. Bring your own gardening tools if you wish. Plant the seeds of growth and friendship on the Northside! Young and old are welcome!

What: Last look at the Manteca Bar, future site of City of Asylum’s Alphabet Literary Center
When: 7 p.m.
Where: 1410 Monterey St.
Take a tour of the bar, get your photo taken as a bartender, plus an optional guided stroll down Sampsonia Way and its “house publications.” Then join the party under a tent, off 318 Sampsonia Way. Free music and dancing. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Sunday, May 7
What: Tunch & Wolf’s Walk for the Homeless
When: Registration at 8:30 a.m.; Walk Begins at 10 a.m.; Food & Festivities from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Where: Trib Total Media Amphitheater, 1 W. Station Square Dr.
10K Walk will follow the Three Rivers Heritage Trail to S. 26th St., turn around and follow back to the Amphitheater. Proceeds benefit Light of Life Rescue Mission. Call 412-803-4138 for information.
