The Andy Warhol Museum has appointed Patrick Moore as the Museum’s new Director of Development. Moore, comes to The Warhol from his most recent post at The Persad Center where he was the New Business Development Director. Moore will begin his new position at The Warhol on May 2, 2011.

Before joining Persad, while working as Project Director of The Estate Project for Artists with AIDS, a project of The Alliance for The Arts in New York City, Moore developed a national program that addressed the impact of the AIDS crisis on the national arts community. He produced special projects and exhibitions with leading contemporary artists such as Ed Ruscha and Catherine Opie. Moore organized two successful print portfolios, The Geldzahler Portfolio and 1989, which raised funds for the project and were placed in major institutional and private collections internationally.

The Geldzahler Portfolio featured specially commissioned works by Frank Stella, James Rosenquist, Louise Bourgeois, David Salle, David Hockney, Ellsworth Kelly, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Dennis Hopper and Francesco Clemente. 1989 included work from Chuck Close, Nan Goldin, Jim Hodges, Frank Moore, Jorge Pardo, Jack Pierson, Lari Pittman, Cindy Sherman, Laurie Simmons, Kiki Smith and Robert Wilson.

“Beyond their aesthetic value, works of art also document the era in which they were made. The Warhol’s incomparable collection of paintings, sculptures, works on paper, media, and ephemera is a treasure trove of great art and great history that keeps alive an era of experimentation and creativity.

“But The Warhol is not just about the past. It is alive; actively used by the local community and showing the work of other artists in relationship to Warhol. The Warhol functions as a magnet for international visitors to Pittsburgh and, as the collection travels the world, Warhol’s influence on the work of young artists continues to build. I am honored to join The Warhol staff and to be a part of the larger Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, which represent the best traditions of Pittsburgh while presenting world-class exhibitions and collecting in-depth,” Moore said.

Eric Shiner, acting director and Milton Fine curator of art at The Warhol added, “We could not have hoped for a more perfect fit for our head development officer here at The Warhol. Patrick is a consummate arts professional, a talented writer, a seasoned traveler and an all-around great guy.

His extensive experience in New York City and Los Angeles will help him to extend the museum’s fundraising campaigns in new and exciting directions, and the fact that he studied at Carnegie Mellon University as an undergraduate gives him a strong Pittsburgh background as well. We are all delighted to welcome him to the museum, and we know that he will be a great addition to The Warhol family.”

Moore is also an accomplished author of several non-fiction books and has worked as a professional journalist. His work has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Philadelphia Inquirer, the New York Times, Newsday and The Advocate. Moore received a 2005 GLAAD Media Award Nomination as Outstanding Newspaper Columnist for work in the Los Angeles Times and Newsday. Moore was also an “Expert Blogger” for Yahoo! Health.

Moore received a BA in English Literature/ Theater Direction from Carnegie Mellon University in 1985.
