From United Way:
The United Way/Money In Your Pocket Coalition is offering free tax preparation services at six locations across Allegheny County to families earning up to $40,000 and individuals making up to $20,000 a year.
The last day for free tax help at most locations is April 18, 2011.
Eligible residents are urged to call the United Way HelpLine at 412-255-1155. Appointments are required and include daytime, evening, and weekend hours. Some locations may even have same or next day appointments available. The tax sites are located in the North Side, Lawrenceville, Downtown, Monroeville, South Side, and East Liberty.
Now in its third year, the Free Tax Preparation Campaign helps low-wage workers claim their maximum tax refunds by tapping into valuable state and federal tax credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC). Services are provided free of charge, offering clients a cost-saving alternative to expensive commercial tax preparation fees.
This tax season, the coalition’s 95 IRS-certified volunteers have already prepared 1,960 tax returns and delivered $4.4 million in tax refunds back to Allegheny County residents, including $2 million in Earned Income Tax Credits. Volunteers include representatives from Pittsburgh’s higher education and business communities as well as retired professionals.
