Local orgs tackle recycling at football games

Starting Sunday, Dec. 12, a group of local organizations will team up to “tackle” recycling at Steelers tailgating parties along the North Shore and play a very large game of recycling cornhole.

The Pennsylvania Resources Council, with funding from the Alcoa Foundation and volunteers from the Manchester Elementary PTA, will start collecting recyclable containers like glass bottles, plastic bottles and cups and aluminum cans at Steelers tailgates.

The program, called Let’s Tackle Recycling, will take place during the final three Steelers home games on Dec. 12, Dec. 19 and Dec. 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The giant cornhole game will have participants trying their luck tossing a 30-gallon bag full of recyclables through a two-feet-wide hole.

Volunteers will be stationed at drop off locations in six parking lots — 1A, 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 –along General Robinson Street between Heinz Field and PNC Park.
