Hello everyone, I want to remind you all that applications are being accepted for the Homeowner Assistance Program (HAP) until March 14 at 4 P.M. This year, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) partnered with ACTION-Housing to provide financial assistance of up to $35,000 to homeowners for rehabilitating and improving their homes within the City of Pittsburgh. The program provides grants that may be used for the following: to bring homes into compliance with City of Pittsburgh codes, to undertake energy efficiency improvements, or to undertake eligible general property improvements.
Hello everyone, I want to take the time to share a few of my priorities for the Northside and District 1 for 2025. The topic of Inclusionary Zoning (IZ) is front and center for City Council. Mayor Gainey has submitted a city-wide IZ proposal to the Planning Commission, requiring developers to build 10% of their total units at 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI) or below. Full details can be found here: engage.pittsburghpa.gov/implementing- housing-needs-assessment/ inclusionary-zoning-iz. The Planning Commission is expected to vote on this proposal soon, and it will likely come to City Council in February.
Depending on who is doing the counting and how you consider the borders, there are anywhere from 11 to over 20 different neighborhoods that make up Pittsburgh’s Northside. A simple Google search will give you 12 listed neighborhoods while the Northside Leadership Council lists 18. One thing is for sure; no matter how you count the various neighborhoods here on the Northside, there is no shortage of opportunities for Northsiders to be informed and get involved in what’s happening in your particular neighborhood.
