Community House Church holding next free market on Feb. 21

Community House Church will hold their next Beloved Community Free Market on Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The market will have gently used clothing (both for adults and children) and housewares, as well as small furniture items. Also available are new formula and diapers for families in need.

A hot meal will be served during the event.

The market will be held at the church, located at 120 Parkhurst St. For more information, visit communityhousechurch.org.

Children’s Museum collecting Valentines for seniors

The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh is collecting activity donations for seniors in Pittsburgh as part of the museum’s Year of Kindness program.

The museum is seeking playing cards, boardgames, books, activity books, word searches, puzzles and similar items to give to Pittsburgh seniors in February. Those who donate will receive one free adult admission (per family) to the museum for that day’s visit.

A donation bin was set up in the lobby of the museum to collect donations.

The Children’s Museum is collecting a different group of items for each month of 2026, and offering free admissions to those who donate. The donation drive was termed the “Year of Giving.”

In January, the museum began its Year of Giving by collecting food for the The National Aviary has announced a new seasonal theme running through May of 2026 and focused on bird nesting Titled “Nesting in Nature,” the theme began on Jan. 7 and includes a variety of new programs at the avian zoo. These include talks about courtship displays by the Aviary’s flamingo flock and animal ambassador programs at the Helen M. Schmidt FliteZone Theater focusing on empty nesters, potential nesters and birds yet to fledge.

Visitors may also see mating displays by the Aviary’s Great Argus, Gus, nest building by its Victoria Crowned Pigeons or members of its African Penguin colony using artificial nesting burrows.

The National Aviary is the leader of the AZA: Saving Animals From Extinction African Penguin Program, which developed artificial nesting burrows now used widely in Namibia. Penguins in the area were threatened due to harvesting of guano, the material the birds used for building nesting burrows.
