National Aviary’s new theme focuses on nest building
The National Aviary has announced a new seasonal theme running through May of 2026 and focused on bird nesting
Titled “Nesting in Nature,” the theme began on Jan. 7 and includes a variety of new programs at the avian zoo. These include talks about courtship displays by the Aviary’s flamingo flock and animal ambassador programs at the Helen M. Schmidt FliteZone Theater focusing on empty nesters, potential nesters and birds yet to fledge.
Visitors may also see mating displays by the Aviary’s Great Argus, Gus, nest building by its Victoria Crowned Pigeons or members of its African Penguin colony using artificial nesting burrows.
