A look back at 40 years of Northside news

As our readers know by now, 2025 is the 40 year anniversary of The Northside Chronicle and we have been making a big celebration of it.

Our official party occurred on July 31 at the Mattress Factory, a gathering of the community, Chronicle staff new and old, and more to celebrate our four decades of operation. Awards were given out to the major newsmakers of our community, as well as recognitions to some of The Chronicle’s longest running advertising supporters.

Since this is our first issue following our party, we wanted to do something special to mark the occasion. So, what better way to do that than with a look through our archives?

We’ve gathered a collection of front page stories from throughout The Northside Chronicle’s history and will be reprinting them on our website through the month of August verbatim (save for fixing any typos we find). We’re featuring one story for every five full years The Chronicle has been in operation, which means there are eight articles in total to read through. We'll include what month and year the article is from with the title.

It’s a fascinating look at the major stories from yesteryear. What were the major triumphs? What were the big problems Northsiders were facing? What community concerns existed decades ago that still exist now? And how did The Northside Chronicle cover it? Think of these questions and more as you read through the work of Chronicle staff of years gone by.

We also plan on making a dive into our archives a recurring feature in The Chronicle going forward. We’re certainly open to suggestions on this front, so if you have a particular year or, even, a particular month you’d like to see an article from, let us know and we can take it under consideration for a future dive into the archives.

We hope you enjoy this look back through the past and thank all our readers for celebrating our 40th anniversary. Reaching this major milestone has been an honor from us all at the paper, one we’re glad to celebrate with the entire community.
