WEB EXCLUSIVE: One Northside holding public meetings on school closures

WEB EXCLUSIVE: One Northside holding public meetings on school closures
By Sean P. Ray | Managing Editor

One Northside's education committee is holding a series of community engagement sessions in response to Pittsburgh Public Schools' planned changes to its Northside schools.

Among the changes, which were announced via a draft plan on Aug. 13, are the closures of Pittsburgh Allegheny 6-8 Traditional Academy, Spring Hill K-5, Schiller 6-8 and King PreK-8. Other schools would have their offered levels of education changed, such as Manchester PreK-8 becoming a 6-8 school

The first community engagement session was held on Nov. 7. Upcoming sessions will be held on Nov. 14 at Urban Impact/Pittsburgh Project (2801 N. Charles St.), and on Dec. 3 at Allegheny Center Alliance Church (250 East Ohio St.)

The sessions are a chance for members of the public to comment on and give their feedback to the proposed changes.

Both meetings will run from 6-8 p.m., with a dinner served at 5:30 p.m. beforehand.

Members of the public wanting to attend should RSVP at onenorthsidepgh.org/ourschools. The Nov. 14 meeting is noted to have limited space, so registration is requested for all attendees for that meeting.

Additional meetings are planned, though exact details have not yet been announced.
