From New Hazlett-New York based, butoh-trained and Bessie award-winning dancer/choreographer, Kota Yamazaki makes his Pittsburgh debut with his company Fluid hug hug as part of the Warhol’s Off the Wall: 2012 series.
Inspired by novelist Jun’ichiro Tanizaki’s essay In’ei Raisan (In Praise of Shadows), which describes Japan’s appreciation of the refined beauty found in darkness and shadows, Yamazaki re-examines the fundamentals of butoh. In an unparalleled collaboration with African dancers, American architect Robert Kocik, lighting designer Kathy Kaufmann and Tokyo-based composer DJ Kohji Setoh, six dancers will perform.

From The Children’s Museum- Get in the groove and join hula hoop instructor Stefanie Moser, co-founder of the Steel City Hoop Union for a hoop jam right here at the Children’s Museum! Discover new ways to move and stretch the body as we hoop and dance to vibrant music. Hooping is a timeless and joyous activity, and so this hoop jam is open to both children and children at heart alike! Come one, come all and give it a whirl!
