NS Public Safety: Cameras throughout the Northside

safety1-660x880The Northside Public Safety Council wants to remind you that even if no one is around, there may be cameras watching at street corners throughout the Northside.

There are 22 security cameras placed strategically throughout the Northside, and though the cameras are not constantly monitored, police do refer back to them when a crime occurs.

Northside Public Safety President David Stacy explained that these cameras have been a valuable tool in catching criminals and making Northside streets safer.

“It’s very nice to know the cameras are there,” said Stacy. “A crime could happen on one street, and three blocks away a camera could help pick up the criminal.”

In January, approximately 405 incidents were reported throughout the Northside, which led to approximately 136 arrests.

The Northside Public Safety Council is a nonprofit corporation composed of community leaders, businesses, government officials the Housing Authority, property owners and the Zone 1 Pittsburgh Police.

The Northside Public Safety Committee meets the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. on the mezzanine level of The Northside Leadership Conference’s offices at 4 Allegheny  Center. All are welcome.
