The NorthShore Community Alliance hosted its 4th Annual Partner Recognition Awards Gala on Saturday, February 15 at the Rivers Casino, 777 Casino Dr.

Carol Washington, executive director at NCA, said the purpose of the gala is to recognize corporation and local community partners that help support the ongoing programs NCA offers.

“It’s an eye opener for us as a nonprofit to see the turnout that we get every year,” Washington said. “It’s a good feeling for us.”

Washington said the theme song of this year’s gala was “When You Believe” by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, which incorporated the overall “Key to the City” theme. The theme is derived from the crystal key that is awarded to organizations that have helped NCA flourish and grow over the years.

Recipients of the award are nominated and then voted on by NCA. This year the recipients were Executive Director Cheryl Walker of the Manchester Youth Development Center, Mark Fatla of the Northside Leadership Conference, and Vinces Sims from WPXI Channel 11 News.

Washington said that January 1, 2014 marked the organizations 119th year of existence.

Correction: Previously this article stated Cheryl Walker of the Manchester Academic Charter School received an award, which is false. Walker is the Executive Director of the Manchester Youth Development Center.
