According to a news release from PennDOT District 11 the East St. Bridge will be re-opening Wednesday, December 13. The bridge has been closed for repairs since October 23.

Once re-opened the Tripoli St. Bridge will be closed for repairs as part of PennDOT’s $87.94 million I-279 Parkway North Improvement Project. The project will be renovating over 30 bridges on the parkway refurbishing a number of elements including the roadways, lighting, patching and guide rails.  The Tripoli St. Bridge is expected to be closed until March of next year. Both bridges are part of the I-279 overpass, connecting East St. with Madison Ave. The construction will be carried out by the Trumbull Corporation and Lindy Paving.

The new detours will force motorists to make a long U-turn. Drivers approaching Madison Ave. looking to head into Historic Deutschtown and Allegheny City Central, should make the left towards the East St. Bridge and head southbound on East Street making a right on Tripoli St. or North Ave.

Motorists looking to get to Tripoli St. in East Deutschtown should head southbound on East St.(perpendicular with I-279S) and make a left onto East Ohio Street and the following left on Madison Ave which will reconnect with Tripoli St. on the Northbound side of I-279.
