Jake Bier, resident of Central Northside, and Zach Ingoldsby are planning to open the War Streets Brewery in early 2016. The nanobrewery, which produces less than 100 gallons of beer at a time, will include a tasting room will be located on the first floor of the historic Firehouse at 1416 Arch St. The will be producing various styles of beer including IPAs, Stouts, Porters, Lagers, as well as seasonal and specialty beers.
The vision is to create a neighborhood brewpub for the Mexican War Streets neighborhood and surrounding communities that will offer a mellow atmosphere for neighbors to meet, drink and socialize. The War Streets Brewery will not have a kitchen, but instead they will have different food trucks and local restaurants provide food, with an emphasis on pairing meals with different beer styles that have names such as Arch Street Amber Ale, Palo Alto Pale Ale, Resaca Red Ale and Buena Vista Brown Ale.
Bier and Ingoldsby have already signed an eight-year lease with the owner of the firehouse. They will appear at the Dec. 10 Hearing of the Zoning Board of Adjustment requesting a Residential Special Exception for commercial use as a malt manufacturer/taproom. Allegheny City Central Assocation members voted unanimously Nov. 9 to send a Letter of Support to the Zoning Board of Adjustment on behalf of the new War Streets Brewery.
A preview party will be held Nov. 28 from 4-7 p.m. when they will be releasing at least one of their brews for a free tasting.
