After being out of commission for over two years, the West Ohio Street Bridge in Pittsburgh’s Northside is set to open back up to vehicle traffic in Fall of 2021.

The City of Pittsburgh Department of Mobility and Infrastructure (DOMI) announced on June 18 that construction has begun on the 117-year old bridge, which has been closed since January 2018. The bridge, which crosses over the Norfolk Southern Railroad, was limited to pedestrians and cyclists due to growing concerns over deterioration of the structure and its weight limit.

When construction is complete, the bridge is expected to once again handle traffic between Allegheny Commons Park and Allegheny West.

Additionally, a temporary pedestrian bridge will be installed in the next few weeks to allow for foot traffic across the bridge during construction.
