Brighton Rd closed Saturday, July 20 for Fallen Zone 1 Officer

Officer Calvin Hall was stationed in Northview Heights for the last two years

By NSC Staff

Reports of an off-duty officer falling victim to gun violence in Homewood on Saturday, July 14 came with further sorrow on Wednesday, July 17 when Pittsburgh Bureau of Police announced on Facebook that Officer Hall had passed away.

Further posts from Zone 1’s social media included the cancellation of the Bureau of Police’s  annual USSIE Summer Games and the closure of Brighton Road in front of the Zone 1 station from California Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue on Saturday, July 20 beginning at 7pm.

A call to Zone 1 for further details about the road closure were answered that activities were still being finalized and any further information would be released on Zone 1’s Facebook page.

In an official city statement from Officer Hall’s family they said “We also want to thank … Zone 1 Commander Christopher Ragland and Sgt. Joe Lewis, who was Officer Hall’s supervisor at Northview Heights, for your care and compassion. We will never forget all that you have done.”

Pittsburgh Bureau of Police announced finalized plans mid afternoon on Friday, July 19th for Officer Hall’s End of Watch Ceremony at 8PM “which is when his regular shift would normally end.”

Additional road closures include Jacksonia St from Cameo Way to Brighton Rd, Freedmore St from Brighton Rd to McMullough St and Columbia Place and Wright Way off of Brighton Rd. Port Authority buses will also be detoured until the ceremony ends.

More details for Officer Hall’s funeral can be found here.

Correction: an earlier version of the article incorrectly cited Penn Hills as the area where Officer Hall was shot.

This story will be updated as information is received.
*Story has been updated with final arrangements for Officer Calvin Hall at 3:01PM 7/19/19
