Northside Happenings October 4 to 7, 2018

The first weekend of October kicks off with a George A. Romero film screening at the Warhol theater, Nova Night Market and an insider’s look at Allegheny Inn, Alphabet City, Teutonia Mannerchor and other Northside buildings with DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh.

Thursday, October 4

Walk-in Vaccine Hours at the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society

Tuesdays through Fridays from 8 to 10 a.m. The Northside location is at 1101 Western Ave. Call for more information: 412-321-4625 or visit the website.

Printmaking Open Studio at Artists Image Resource

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 9 p.m., Artists Image Resource offers a Printmaking Open Studio for experienced screen printers working on short-run projects that can be completed in one evening. A small materials fee applies. More information here.

Friday, October 5

George A. Romero’s “Season of the Witch” screening with filmmaker Peggy Ahwesh at The Warhol Museum

Co-presented with the University of Pittsburgh’s Humanities Center and as part of the city-wide tribute to Romero called “Romero Lives: Pittsburgh Celebrates George A. Romero,” The Warhol presents a screening of Romero’s “Season of the Witch.” After the screening, filmmaker Peggy Ahwesh will discuss Romero’s legacy. More information here.

Dan Getkin and the Twelve Six at Allegheny Elks Lodge #339

Dan Getkin and the Twelve Six present their second full-length release called “Feeling Good About the End Times.” Also featuring Angela Autumn, André Costello and special guests who contributed to the album. More details on the Facebook event page.

Nova Night Market

I Made It! Market takes place from 4 to 8 p.m., showcasing more than 20 artists and their homemade wares. Featuring live music and food trucks. For list of participating artists and more information, check out the Facebook event page.

Tim Vitullo at the Park House

Check out blues-influenced singer, guitarist and songwriter Tim Vitullo and his band starting at 9:30 p.m. More information via Facebook.

Saturday, October 6

Black Bar Crawl: Northside and Strip District

“One bus, a few black owned bars, and a helluva good time!” Every Saturday in October, #SupportBlackBusinesses with this tour of black-owned bars in Pittsburgh, including Young Brothers Bar and Robinson’s Bar & Grill in the Northside. Starts at 7:30 p.m. Bus tickets are $20. Full schedule and registration information available here.

DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh

In this two-day event, explore an old vault, gain access to private clubs, and check out breathtaking views in select Pittsburgh neighborhoods both Downtown and in the Northside. Individual day tickets are $10 each; tickets for both days are $15. Check out the building list and purchase tickets here.

Observatory Hill Neighborhood Cleanup

Meet at 10 a.m. in the parking lot across the street from Schorr’s Bakery to help clean up the neighborhood. Cleanup will begin in the Business District on Perrysville Avenue. Tools and bags provided. More information available via Facebook.

Manchester Historic Society Fall Social

Join the Manchester Historic Society from 5 to 7 p.m. at Anderson House, 1423 Liverpool St. to catch up with one another, hear an update on the work on the house and available volunteer opportunities. Please bring a dessert, side or beverage. Main course will be provided. Friends and neighbors welcome.

Walkabout Apple Whiskey Release at Wigle

Partake in the annual release of Wigle’s Walkabout Apple Whiskey starting at 2 p.m. at the Wigle Barrelhouse & Whiskey Garden at 1055 Spring Garden Ave. Gaucho Asado food truck will be on-site and Amor Acucar will be selling cupcakes featuring Wigle’s seasonal whiskey.
