Holiday fundraiser at The Allegheny Inn

On Saturday, December 17 The Allegheny Inn, 1010 Cedar Ave., is hosting its second annual Holiday Open House-Fundraiser starting at 6 p.m.

The Inn is donating a portion of individual ticket sales to Light Of Life Rescue Mission and will also be collecting additional donations, such as thermal tops and bottoms, thick gloves for adult men, hand warmers, or socks.

Tickets are $50 and include a variety of hors d’oeuvres (some vegetarian and/or vegan-friendly), a 4-sauce meatball bar, carved ham, shrimp cocktail and more. There will also be a Cookie Exchange Table where attendees can bring cookies to contribute and also take cookies home to enjoy later.

The Inn is also offering rooms the night of the party for only $99 (plus taxes) on a first come, first served basis.  Please contact Robert at (412) 478-2161 to reserve your room.

About The Allegheny Inn

William and Mary Mohrmann, ages 30 and 28 respectively, built the home, and an adjoining carriage house, between 1880 and 1881 on land leased from heiress Mary Schenley, also of Schenley Park fame.  This Second Empire home was the most progressively stylized home of the area. The incised carving of the window lintels, stone belt courses, brick corbels, mansard roofs and horizontal and vertical recessed panels in the façade brick were features often copied in local architecture of the area later in the 1880’s.

In 2011 Mr. and Mrs. Justin Mistovich, with partner Brent Bissel, purchased the property, which had been mostly vacant for 34 years. With a vision of one day operating as a distinctive Bed and Breakfast, this home has been painstakingly and lovingly restored, paying homage to the original design of the home.  Original crown moldings, window details, ceiling medallions, hand railing and spindles were incorporated with new doors, new window casing, door casings, purchased fireplaces, claw foot tubs and proper lighting fixtures create the current ambiance. The color palette is fresh and comforting with a modern twist. Now boasting 15 rooms, 6 full baths, 2 powder rooms, 6 bedrooms, 2 parlors, 43 doors, 40 windows and 9 fire places, this masterpiece is a grand example of Historic Preservation and Restoration.

The Allegheny Inn serves as a small-venue wedding space and hosts special events such as anniversary and birthday parties, baby and bridal showers, wedding receptions as well as business meetings and informal dinner parties.
