25th Deutschtown Pumpkinfest

Deutschtown Pumpkinfest celebrated its 25th anniversary on Saturday, October 8. The event was held from 1 to 5 p.m. in East Park and brought hundreds of children and their families out to celebrate the fall season.

Children were able to pick pumpkins, ride ponies, get up close and personal with goats and sheep, climb a rock climbing wall, jump around in a bounce house, and a handful of other activities. There were also dozens of service providers on site to hand out information, such as Northside Common Ministries and Carnegie Library.

The Northside Chronicle teamed up with Barbara Burns to create content for a time capsule that will be opened in 2041 during the 50th Pumpkinfest. The idea spawned from Burns who said the event has been going on for so long that some adults who attend the festival with their children had attended when they were kids themselves. Burn’s said that the children of today can include something with the time capsule, and then years from now when it is opened they will have the chance to share their childhood memories with their kids.

The Chronicle recorded boys and girls for a video for the time capsule, asking them questions such as “What do you want to be when you grow up?” and “What do you think the future will be like?”

Some replies included professional football players, marine biologists, and school teachers. One boy also said that he thinks Pokémon and Poké Ball’s will be real in 2041. It may seem like a stretch, but only time will tell.

The Chronicle also held a raffle to win a Halloween themed gift basket. Those who entered needed to subscribe to the weekly e-newsletter. This years winner is Tonia Davis!
