For Pittsburgh Public School students, the first day of the new school year starts on Wednesday August 29!
While students prepare their book bags and pick out their first day of school outfits, parents can get ready too at orientation events held at Northside schools with kindergarten through eighth grade.
As well as meeting and greeting teachers, there will be free haircuts at several schools as well as community partners with information about the services they offer and school supply raffles.
Principals at the participating PPS schools agree that the orientations help parents meet teaches and alleviate some of students’ anxieties when they’re starting in a new school. PPS usually sees an 80 percent turnout at their back to school events.
