What: The Month Mainstage: What Lies Beneath. Stories of Steely Reserve
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: The New Hazlett Theater

After exciting, sold-out shows the past two summers, The Moth returns to Pittsburgh for an extended two-act Mainstage event.

This evening of storytelling features a theme relevant to Pittsburgh’s local culture, five storytellers and musical interludes. Called “New York’s hottest and hippest literary ticket” by the Wall Street Journal, The Moth is an acclaimed nonprofit organization dedicated to the art of storytelling. Each Moth Mainstage program features original stories told by a variety of artists and personalities live, without notes. Past storytellers include celebrated writers and actors, as well as folks with true stories to tell—a car salesman, a business executive, a former pickpocket, an astronaut. Of course, when The Moth goes on the road, they pick up local storytellers along the way.

What: Screening of “Undaunted”
When: 8 p.m.
Where: Riverview Park

To celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the dedication of the Allegheny Observatory, there will be a screening of the new film “Undaunted,” which stars the Allegheny Observatory and the two men who changed astronomy and physics with their discoveries there.

“It’s really about shedding a positive light on Pittsburgh,” said Handley noting that most people, even in the Observatory Hill neighborhood, don’t realize what a “powerhouse of astronomy Pittsburgh has been for over 100 years.”
