There are tons of places on the many hilltops of the Northside to catch the City’s 4th of July fireworks, but the Carnegie Science Center is offering a package deal for those looking for an up close viewing with the science of fireworks thrown in.
(From the CSC) Tickets are on sale for Carnegie Science Center’s July 4th Fireworks Blowout that offers prime viewing of Pittsburgh’s Independence Day fireworks.
The Science Center’s Fireworks Blowout from 6-11 pm on Wednesday, July 4, features four floors of hands-on exhibits and Highmark SportsWorks®, which will be open until the fireworks display at dusk. At select times, crowds will be able to view the film Grand Canyon Adventure in the Rangos Omnimax Theater, see a live show on the science of fireworks, and witness the shock of the live Works Theater show High Voltage. Attendees can also experience a special patriotic laser show, Spirit of America, featuring music by John Fogerty, Garth Brooks, and John Mellencamp, at the Buhl Digital Planetarium.
The per person cost of $39 for lawn seating includes parking, plus one popcorn and soda for each attendee to enjoy during the evening. Additional food items will be available for purchase. Rooftop viewing is sold out!
“Our Fireworks Blowout has become one of our most popular events,” says Jessica Lausch, director of Visitor Experience. “Visitors get to see the famous Pittsburgh fireworks show from our prime location on the North Shore, and learn all about the science of fireworks.”
Those who have other plans for the evening can still explore the Science Center, from 10 am – 5 pm, at regular admission prices. Members visit free during the day.
All exhibits, Omnimax movies, laser shows, and demonstrations will shut down for the fireworks show, scheduled to begin around 9:30 pm. Exhibit areas will remain closed for the rest of the evening. One final fireworks demonstration, laser show, and Omnimax movie will run at 10:30 pm following the fireworks.
The iconic cone located on the top of the Science Center, known as E-Motion, will shine red, white, and blue—enhancing the patriotic ambiance for Fireworks Blowout attendees and other Pittsburghers enjoying the fireworks from Mt. Washington and the West End Overlook.
“The Fireworks Blowout is a truly unique experience,” says Ann Metzger, Henry Buhl, Jr., co-director of Carnegie Science Center. “Our location on the river offers stunning views of the fireworks display, and hands-on science activities make this a memorable event for the whole family.”
