This weekend on the Northside

Thursday June 28-Sunday July 1
What: Next to Normal presented by Carrnivale Theatrics
When: Thursday-Saturday, 8 p.m.; Sunday, 2 p.m.
Where: New Hazlett Theater

Carrnivale Theatrics is proud to bring to Pittsburgh the premier non-touring production of Next to Normal, the smash hit Broadway musical that chronicles the lives of a middle-class American family and their struggle with addiction and mental illness. Next to Normal has been hailed by Rolling Stone as “Agonizingly Beautiful” and “the future of the American musical”.

This is the final weekend that the show will be running. Adult general admission is $35. Students, seniors and groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets at a discounted rate of $18. Tickets can be purchased online at www.newhazletttheater.org.

Saturday, June 30
What: Urban Garden Tour
When: Registration begins at 9 a.m. and walkers kick off at 10 a.m.
Where: Northside Common Ministries at 1601 Brighton Road

Visit many of the Northside’s unique Urban Gardens while raising money to help over 900 local food insecure families put dinner on the table and provide a safe bed for 30 homeless men every night. Bring a friend or even a pet; all are welcome. Walkers are encouraged to bring a bag of non-perishable items to help fill up the food pantry.

Urban Garden walkers contributing a minimum of $30 in collected pledges will receive an Urban Garden 1K, 3K or 5K Walk/Tour t-shirt (while supplies last). Refreshments and entertainment in the park will be provided.

Sunday, July 1
What: USS Requin Behind-the-Scenes Tech Tours
When: 9-11 a.m.
Where: Carnegie Science Center

Now you can delve deeper into the science and technology of submarines. Go behind the scenes of the USS Requin, and into areas rarely seen by the visiting public! See how these amazing vessels and their crew faced challenges and life underwater. Explore un-restored compartments, see the Conning Tower, and check out the periscope!

This tour is for ages 15 and up. Tour size is limited to 12 people. Full mobility is required. Call 412.237.1637 to register. The cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members.
