This weekend in the Northside: November 11-12

Friday November 11
What: Comedian Brad Garrett
Where: Rivers Casino
When: 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Three-time Emmy Award-winning comedian Brad Garrett comes to Rivers Casino on Friday, Nov. 11 for shows at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., held in the casino’s new ballroom.

The comedian is best known for his roll as Ray Romano’s big brother Robert on the CBS hit series, “Everybody Loves Raymond.” Garrett has also appeared in guest roles on “Roseanne,” “Mad About You” and “Seinfeld.” His voiceover work includes giving life to Fatso in “Casper,” Dim the rhinoceros beetle in “A Bug’s Life” and Bloat the blowfish in “Finding Nemo.” He currently stars in the Fox comedy series, “’Til Death,” now in its second season.

Garrett’s 90-minute stand-up show will get the audience involved and have them laughing the whole way through. The show may contain adult themed material and all guests must be 21 years or older to attend.

Opening the show will be comedian Mario Joyner. Originally hailing from Pittsburgh, Joyner was formally the host of MTV’s “Half-Hour Comedy Hour” and made his film-acting debut in “Three Men and A Baby.” He has been the opening act for numerous tours and concerts, including Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock.

Tickets for each show are $42 and can be purchased at the Rivers Casino gift shop or online at www.ticketalternative.com.

Saturday October 22

What: ChemStars
Where: Carnegie Science Center
When: 9:30 a.m.- noon

ChemStars is a program designed to get 125+ girls, in fourth through ninth grade, excited about chemistry and to spark their interest in careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. BASF Corporation, Bayer Corporation, LANXESS, NOVA Chemicals and PPG Industries will provide hands-on activities and one-on-one mentoring, pairing each girl with a woman in a STEM career.

Part of the celebration of International Year of Chemistry, ChemStars focuses on how chemistry is essential to our modern lives through “Five Essentials”: food, water, beauty, health, and “green” (environmental concerns). Girls will participate with mentors from each company in hands-on activities reflecting the “Essentials,” from making candy to water purification, and will learn how chemistry makes it all possible.
