Special days for tiny scientists at the Carnegie Science Center

From The Carnegie Science Center: On Monday, Sept. 12, Carnegie Science Center will launch Munchkin Mondays—a day of themed activities just for preschoolers and their grown-ups. Each Monday through Oct. 31, kids ages 2–6 will have free reign over the Science Center’s building, with hands-on learning activities, scavenger hunts, sing-alongs, story time, and special planetarium and live demonstration shows just for our junior scientists.

All Munchkin Monday activities are free with Science Center admission and no advance registration is required. Special activities will take place from 10 am until 2 pm. Story times will take place at 10:45 am, 11:15 am, 12:15 pm and 1:15 pm. Make-and-take tables will allow visitors to create a science-inspired craft to take home.

Each date has a unique and engaging theme that introduces our smallest explorers to some of the biggest concepts in science. The schedule is as follows:

Sept. 12: Trains— Complete schedule here.

Sept. 19: Play Along— Complete schedule here.

Sept. 26: Insects and Animals— Complete schedule here.

Oct. 3: Colors — Complete schedule here.

Oct. 10: Space and Robots — Complete schedule here.

Oct. 17: Splish Splash — Complete schedule here.

Oct. 24: Hodge Podge — Complete schedule here.

Oct. 31: Halloween — Complete schedule here.

In addition to special themed activities, regular daily programs including planetariums shows, live demonstrations, and Omnimax movies will feature preschool-friendly content. The Buhl Digital Planetarium will feature shows like One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure, Circus in the Stars, and The Sky Above Mr. Rodgers’ Neighborhood. In the live demonstration theaters, little learners will be captivated by shows like Earth and Friends, What Do Animals Eat, and What’s that Sound.

“While there’s always something for early learners at the Science Center, we are delighted to offer days when we cater to our youngest visitors,” says Jessica Lausch, director of Visitor Experience at Carnegie Science Center. “Igniting a passion for curiosity, learning, and discovery in our visitors is the most important thing we do here. Through Munchkin Mondays, we are engaging kids at an early age so that they have a head start in science literacy.”

Munchkin Mondays is for individual families, as well as daycare, preschool, and community groups. For more information on booking a group visit, which would be 15 or more people, please contact Erica Tamorria at 412.237.3434 or [email protected].
