• October: Northside Civic Development Council unveils renovated Eberhart & Ober Brewery building, with office space and room for the Penn Brewery.

• November: Ground broken for the Carnegie Science Center.

1990

• April: The Northside celebrates its 150th anniversary, counting from Allegheny City’s founding in 1840.

• May: Dan Onorato elected to city council
• September: The Buhl Science Center closes to the public.
• October: Carnegie Science Center Opens.

• July: Nonprofit Save the Aviary, Inc. takes over operations at the Pittsburgh Aviary.

• November: Tom Murphy elected Pittsburgh’s first Northside mayor.

• May: The Andy Warhol Museum opens.

• July: Ground broken on $22 million Lincoln at North Shore apartments and $1 million Alpine Street project in the Central Northside.

• June: Brighton Heights celebrates opening of Spring Hill Savings Bank.
• December: Development begins on Troy Hill’s Wicklines Lane.

• September: Barbara Burns opens Sweet Time Cafe and post office on East Ohio Street.

• March: URA approves financing to Allegheny West for rehabilitation of 10 houses on Allegheny Avenue.
• July: St. Nicholas Church receives historic designation.

• February: Calvary United Church of Christ undergoes extensive renovations.

• March: The Federal Hill project receives $1.8 million from Pennsylvania’s Housing Finance Agency.
